Grand Canyon

Crossing from New Mexico to Arizona was surprising for me---there actually was a noticeable difference in terrain. Suddenly the rocks were red and seemed like they were puffed full of air.

nice farms.

rusty red earth.

devil horns on this one.

We stayed at Flagstaff, Arizona with Sarah's cousin, Shannon, and her daughter, Zoe. Shannon had cooked us up the first vegetables I'd eaten since New Orleans, and we all had a couple of laughs at Zoe's eagerness to get us out the door. At 4 am we left Flagstaff in order to catch sunrise at Grand Canyon. If I recall correctly, we almost hit a few deer-- hard to say really-- seems like it happens all the time nowadays.

Travel Tip #364 When planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, do arrive before 5:30 am. It will save you $25.

After some early morning navigating around the parking lot, we found a shuttle bus that would take us to what the driver called "the best spot for sunrise."  A large part of me kind of thought the Grand Canyon was gonna be some overhyped hole, nothing notable.  Sitting on the bus, I caught my first glimpse and I literally gasped, wide eyed. That's all I have to say about that.

My muses.

I secretly photographed this couple the duration of our stop at this vista.

These people definitely paid the $25 entry fee.

Utah's up next, stay tuned.
